Ryecroft Junction Renewal.

Work was progressing at Ryecroft on Sunday 23 March. The Junction was being replaced and considerably altered. The pointwork is now much simplified and has been moved closer to Aldridge/Bloxwich. The Cannock line is now the straight ahead route and the Sutton Park line is the divergence. The new point machines are electrically operated, replacing the previously used electro-pneumatic drives and the ground position light signals have both been removed, thus bringing to an end any shunt moves at Ryecroft.

The ballast train is 6p94, with 66001 at the Walsall end, this train returned to Bescot North End at 2220.

Great set of shots.
They're still not gonna be four-tracking into Walsall then... or re-opening the South Staffs route.

Those are interesting photos. It has changed that view quite a bit. It seems that speeds can now be increased on and off the Chase line but the Sutton Park curve looks a lot tighter now, and perhaps require a slower speed than before? Nice action shots those.

Well the way the junction is now there is not much chance of the South Staffs returning, which we all knew anyway.

The line speeds have not altered, surprisingly, despite the revised layout, it is hard to see what exactlty has been achieved here.
