Birch Coppice Memories.

As the Bescot - Birch Coppice trip sadly ended this week here is a reminder of happier times as 37667 Meldon Quarry centenary hauls 6G42 over Pleck Junction towards Bescot Downside.

37s were permanently associated with the Birch Coppice, they always seemed to make a comeback, despite the Class 67s being regular power for the service. Lets not forget the Class 56s that often worked the trip before EWS took them out of traffic in 2004.

Thanks for the memories...

Probably the only photo i've ever seen taken from the PSB (I assume), a great record. Got some shots somewhere myself of 667, and i've seen an old steam photo taken from the Pleck Jn box which was situated alongside Walsall PSB for a while...

Yes it was taken from the Power Box, sometime in 2003. Your steam photo from Pleck Junction box would be nice to see.

Talking of Pleck Jcn box, in the 1920s two of the signalmen there were Mayor of Walsall.Inside the box was an ornate brass plaque commemorating this. Upon the closure of Pleck box the plaque was hung in the PSB, where it still hangs today, I will post a photo of it soon.

That is a quality shot, wish I had seen the Birch a few more times in its early days. 667 used to follow me all round the country. Was massive monster, DRS got it now but it doesnt look as good in blue as EWS. Will have to try and put some of my pix on here sooner or later!
